At Taco Bell, it was revealed that a classic luxe box has gone up to $6.79, an increase of 35.8%.
On Reddit, the caption of the thread said: “Now I can’t afford Taco Bell anymore.”
In the comments, many were left devastated by the news that the meal had gone up in price.
One person wrote: “Capitalism strikes again!”
And another claimed it had increased to $7.49 with them.
But others reported that the item hadn’t actually increased at their local Taco Bell.
In fact, one customer even reported a price decrease, that a luxe had gone from $11.39 to $6.49.
And another person even slammed the customer for complaining about the increase.
They wrote: “If you were 1.79 away from going under, you probably should be eating at home.”
But this jab was quickly shut down by another Reddit user who pointed out that it can be just as expensive to eat from home.
The defender noted: “Making a legit meal for less than $5 at home isn’t so easy anymore.”
While the reason for the inconsistent pricing has not been confirmed, it could be decided based on location.
Often, franchisees decide on menu costs depending on factors like local availability of ingredients.
The US Sun has contacted Taco Bell for comment, but did not hear back right away.
