‘Talent alone wouldn’t take me to the top’ – Patrick Mahomes sends message over what it’s taken to reach Chiefs pinnacle

NFL icon Patrick Mahomes has revealed how he made it to the pinnacle of the sport.

The 29-year-old is widely considered one of the best quarterbacks of all time, having won three Super Bowl titles.

But in a new social media advertisement for Invisalign, he claimed that he needed more than just talent to make it.

He said: “I remember that feeling. Just starting to know what I could do.

“But to come into my own, I had to learn that talent alone wouldn’t take me to the top.

“Confidence isn’t a hand out, you’ve got to build it. How you feel is how you play.”

Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs returned to practice last month as head coach Andy Reid prepares for the 2025-26 NFL season.

They go into the new season following a 40-22 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in February.

And now Mahomes is approaching the upcoming campaign with his sights set on a fourth ring.

He said: “When you lose a Super Bowl, I think there’s sometimes in those workouts, you may be a little tired.

“You have that extra added motivation to finish even harder, finish even stronger.

“I think it’ll be good for us at the end of the day.

“I mean, obviously looking back, you want to win the game.

“But a lot these guys hadn’t lost one, hadn’t ended the season on a loss that are on this team now.

“So, I’m sure they’ll be motivated to go back out there and try to find a way to get to the Super Bowl and win it this year.”
