WHEN it comes to stopping mold in its tracks, many of us have spent hundreds of dollars trying to find the perfect solution.
But all we actually need to do is head to our local Target, where there’s a $7 product that promises to stop mold and get rid of bad smells in the process.

You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a mold solution – just head to your local Target[/caption]
This $7.99 natural product has been said to help keep mold at bay – whilst also making homes smell amazing[/caption]
Just mix a few drops of the oil with some water and spray on mold-prone areas[/caption]
The item in question is Everspring’s Peppermint Pure Essential Oil – $7.99 for 0.5fl oz.
With a “cool, crisp, minty-fresh smell”, the oil is perfect to use anywhere in the home and at any time of the year.
You can even add it to diffusers, mix it with other essential oils and it’s paraben and phthalate-free too.
If you want to use it as a mold repellent, simply mix a few drops with some water in a spray bottle and spray liberally on the area you want to focus on.
A study by the National Library of Medicine found that peppermint oil traps some major components like menthone, menthol, and alpha-pinene – compounds that play an important role in mold growth inhibition.
And other experts have said that the oil may also be mixed with other essential oils to reduce mold.
A peppermint essential oil minty antibacterial mixture will kill most types of mold, according to Vedaoils.com.
However, another study found that peppermint oil had little to no effect on the growth of the Penicillium and Aspergillus – another species of mold.
Regardless of the study, the positive reviews for the oil speak for themselves, with happy customers taking to the Target website to share their thoughts.
“I got this to help with an ant problem in our kitchen as well more natural option because my toddler gets into everything,” one wrote.
“The smell is pleasant and seemed to help keep the ants at bay.”
“Very strong smell, the quantity of peppermint oil for this price point is a steal!!” another added.
“We use a few drops on wool dryer balls as a natural alternative to scented dryer sheets,” a third said.
“Clothes smell amazing!”
“I absolutely love the way this oil smells,” someone else wrote.
“Smells amazing! Great value for essential oil,” another added.
