Terrifying moment NASCAR driver slams into and slides along barrier at 200mph before flipping as horrified fans watch on

THIS is the moment a NASCAR driver was involved in a terrifying crash which carried him along a wall at 200mph.

During Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series at Kansas Speedway, 26-year-old Zane Smith miraculously escaped injury after his car slammed into the wall and slid along it before flipping over.

Smith said it was a ‘wild ride’[/caption]

During an overtime restart, Smith’s rear bumper made contact with John Hunter Nemechek, which saw him lose control of his car and veer to the wall on his left.

But while Nemechek spun down into the oncoming traffic, collecting Ty Gibbs and Josh Berry in the process, Smith’s vehicle carried its momentum into the outside wall.

That then saw the No38 Front Row Motorsports Ford of Smith ride along the wall on its left side.

A long way around from where the incident had started, Smith’s car finally came off the wall before flipping over multiple times.

Amazingly Smith was able to walk away under his own power as race stewards and medics rushed over to assess him.

The race was red-flagged, but the safety wall Smith had gone around needed no repairs.

Speaking after the crash, Smith recalled the “violent” crash.

He said: “It was a wild ride, no doubt.

“I had a decent restart going and I just get wrecked by the 42 [Nemechek].

“He just drives through me and then I was sliding on the wall.

“I was just mad at that point from how our day was going and this just pissed me off even more because that’s what really hurt was just flipping down the track.

“It was violent, no doubt, but we had such a fast Speedy Cash Ford today. It’s just a bummer.

“Right before that caution came out we were gonna have a top 10 day, racing up inside the top 10 a majority of the day and it’s a shame that it has to come to an end out there.

“I want to give a shout out back to everyone at FRM for bringing another really good car, especially at a mile-and-a-half.

“Hopefully, five more. Hopefully we bring some more good ones.”

Taking to social media, Nemechek, 28, issued an apology for his mistake causing the collision.

He said: “My fault. made a mistake trying to make a move to go 3 wide into turn 3.

“Apologies to the 38 guys and zane. hate the way it ended.

“A decent day but nothing to show for it.”
