Vietnam’s star educators are basking in the royal spotlight after a Thai delegation arrived to celebrate their achievements and ramp up educational ties across Asia.
From July 6 to 8, a high-profile delegation from the Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation (PMCAF), led by Chairman Dr Krissanapong Kirtikara, visited Vietnam to meet past award winners, promote regional cooperation and prepare for the next round of accolades.
The visit underlines how education can forge powerful bonds between nations – and shines a light on Vietnam’s growing reputation for classroom innovation.
During yesterday’s (July 7) gathering at the Royal Thai Embassy in Ha Noi, Dr Kirtikara hailed the Princess Maha Chakri Award as a prestigious recognition of educators’ dedication to shaping young minds.
He remarked that the award has become “an important bridge” linking the Royal Thai Embassies, participating countries, and the Foundation through the Friends of Thailand network, which champions collaboration and knowledge-sharing across borders.
Earlier, the Thai delegation met with officials from Vietnam’s Department of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Education and Training. Discussions centred on launching joint educational initiatives and preparations for the sixth Princess Maha Chakri Award ceremony, scheduled for October 15 in Bangkok.
Vietnam has seen six of its remarkable teachers honoured with the award since its inception in 2015. This year’s recipient, Nguyen Thi Thu Lan, Principal of Ward 5 Kindergarten in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, has earned widespread praise for her forward-thinking projects.
Her achievements include creating multifunctional classrooms, establishing a green school model, and developing a vibrant Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space that enriches students’ learning experiences, reported The Nation.
Today, the PMCAF delegation is expected to visit Nguyen’s school to observe her innovative teaching methods in action and discuss future avenues for support and collaboration.
Founded to spotlight exceptional educators from ASEAN countries, as well as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mongolia and Timor-Leste, the Princess Maha Chakri Award is presented every two years. It celebrates teachers whose work transforms lives and drives educational progress across the region.
