Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across Thailand, affecting 50 provinces, with Bangkok and its surrounding areas expected to experience rain over 80% of the region.

The TMD predicts the potential for flash floods and water accumulation today, September 9.

Heavy rain is anticipated in the eastern provinces of Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, prompting residents to take precautions due to the risk of flooding, particularly in urban areas such as Bangkok. Flash floods and sudden water surges are a concern, especially in low-lying areas and near waterways.

This weather pattern results from a monsoon trough across northern and upper northeastern Thailand combined with a moderate southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

In the Andaman Sea, moderate winds are expected with waves reaching around 2 metres and over 2 metres in stormy conditions. Similar conditions are forecast for the lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
