Heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast to affect 31 provinces in Thailand, with the north expected to experience the most severe conditions. Storm Wipha has weakened to a depression, yet the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) advises caution on July 23.

The TMD’s 24-hour weather forecast predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in specific areas such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Lampang, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Nong Khai, and Bueng Kan.

Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant for potential flash floods and forest runoffs, particularly near slopes, waterways, and low-lying regions.

This weather is attributed to a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, along with a monsoon trough over northern Myanmar and Laos. Meanwhile, the tropical Storm Wipha has weakened over Xieng Khouang, Laos, and is expected to further downgrade into a low-pressure cell.

In the upper Andaman Sea, strong winds are expected, with waves between 2 and 4 metres and over 4 metres during thunderstorms. In the lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are anticipated to be 2 to 3 metres, reaching over 3 metres during thunderstorms.

Mariners in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are advised to sail with caution and avoid stormy areas, with small boats recommended to stay ashore.

From 6am today until 6am tomorrow, the northern region will experience thunderstorms covering 80% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun.
