The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms across 45 provinces, focusing on two regions, with Bangkok expected to experience the heaviest rainfall.
Residents are urged to exercise caution due to potential dangers from thunderstorms yesterday, August 8.
The forecast indicates that the southwest monsoon is currently affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Consequently, thunderstorms are anticipated in various regions, prompting warnings for the public to remain vigilant.
The upper Andaman Sea will experience moderate wind and waves reaching heights of 1 to 2 metres, with areas affected by thunderstorms seeing waves exceeding 2 metres. Mariners are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
The northern region will see thunderstorms across 40% of the area, primarily in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Tak, and Kamphaeng Phet provinces. Temperatures will range from lows of of 22-24°C to highs of 32-36°C, with southwesterly winds blowing at 10-15 km/h.
In the northeastern region, 40% of the area is expected to experience thunderstorms, particularly in Loei, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. Temperatures will range from 24-26°C at the lowest to 33-37°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds maintaining a speed of 10-15 km/h.
In the central region, thunderstorms will cover 60% of the area, mostly affecting Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon. Temperatures will be between 23-26°C at the lowest and 33-36°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at 10-15 km/h.
In the eastern region, 60% of the area will be hit by thunderstorms, mainly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. The temperature is expected to drop to 24-27°C and rise to 33-36°C. Southwesterly winds will blow at 15-30 km/h, with waves about 1 metre high, increasing to over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.
The southern region (east coast) will have thunderstorms over 40% of the area, especially in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces. Temperatures will vary between 23 and 25°C at the lowest and 33 to 36°C at the highest, with a southwesterly wind speed of 15 to 30 km/h and sea waves reaching about 1 metre high, exceeding 2 metres in stormy areas.
On the west coast, thunderstorms will affect 40% of the area, particularly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun provinces. Temperature lows will be between 24 and 26°C, with highs of 32-35°C. Southwesterly winds will blow at 15-35 km/h, with sea waves at 1 to 2 metres high, increasing to over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas, reported KhaoSod.
Bangkok and its vicinity will see thunderstorms across 60% of the area. Minimum temperatures will be between 25 and 27°C, rising to a maximum of 34-36°C, with southwesterly wind speed of 10-15 km/h.
