McShay, 48 has finally addressed why he holds such distain for his former ESPN colleague.

He was let go by ESPN in June 2023 as the company announced several lay-offs.

Speaking on his eponymous podcast The McShay Show, the analyst explained his stance on the uncomfortable situation.

He claims that the now-24-year-old Jalen Carter’s legal troubles was at the center of his falling out with Finebaum, 40.

“When I say he’s an all-time coward, that’s why I say it,” McShay said. When I say he has no loyalty, that’s why I say it. The guy’s a rat. He’s perfect to be a politician.

“I respected what he did. They brought him in because he’s got an audience down in the south, and people either love him or hate him.”

This comes as Finebaum departs ESPN for a career in politics.

McShay continued to appear as a guest on The Paul Finebaum Show until their relationship reached a breaking point.

His reporting on Carter caused a rift between the pair that is yet to be resolved.

The analyst worked for ESPN with a particular focus on the NFL Draft and spotting the best college players.

That was until McShay highlighted several character concerns about Carter on ESPN just months before the 2023 NFL Draft.

McShay has argued that Finebaum refused to report objectively on Carter being charged after a fatal car crash in January 2023.

Carter was sentenced to 12 months of probation, a $1,000 fine and 80 hours of community service.

The families of those killed in the accident have also filed lawsuits against the Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle.
