Tom Brady points out ‘exciting’ and ‘fun to watch’ NFL play that is actually ‘terrible’ for his fellow QBs

TOM Brady has claimed that there may soon be a spike in NFL quarterback injuries.

Brady, 48, retired three years ago having won seven Super Bowls in his iconic career.

He has claimed that rule changes ahead of the 2025 season will leave quarterbacks exposed.

Speaking on The PFF NFL Podcast, the NFL legend has broken down why the new rules come at a risk.

He said, “With the rule changes in the NFL that have essentially taken away forcible contact to a ball-carrier, certainly the quarterback outside of the pocket.

“Even though the quarterback can protect himself, we’ve now forced a very passive defense.”

The seven-time Super Bowl winner argues that quarterbacks have been given too much scope to run over recent seasons.

This is because they have been overprotected, allowing for offensive coordinators to take advantage.

Brady’s has also acknowledged that these adaptations could make the on-field product better.

“It’s terrible for the longevity of the quarterback,” Brady stated. “It’s certainly very exciting, and it’s fun to watch.”

The New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend excelled as a passing threat during his playing days.

While regarded as the greatest NFL player of all time, Brady was rather unassuming at the start of his career.

He registered a staggeringly slow 5.28-second 40-yard dash during the 2000 NFL Combine.

This led to him being selected 199th overall in the sixth round of that year’s Draft.

Brady suffered an ACL tear during Week 1 of the 2008 season, just as he was reaching his peak.

He was forced to miss the rest of the season as he recovered from this injury.

His Patriots made history the following season as they went 16-0 before winning the Super Bowl.

This injury has been widely attributed to these gradual rule changes.

He continued, “I think it’s the responsibility of the offensive player to protect himself.

“The way the rules are now, the defensive player has to protect the offensive player. And I strongly disagree with that form of refereeing the game.”

Brady argues that a balance must be found between keeping the excitement alive and protecting quarterbacks from unnecessary injuries.
