Tens of thousands of vehicles have been recalled due to issues with the heating systems.

As such, the ventilation and air conditioning systems have also been affected.

Toyota‘s parent company, which also owns Lexus and a portion of Subaru, has made an alarming discovery.

Bosses have found out that some of the cars sold in the years 2023 to 2025 may have faulty HVAC systems.

This is according to a recall notice that was issued in September from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Many of the vehicles could have an electrical compressor failure which could cause the defroster and defogger to be inoperable.

The recall notice stated that these conditions would increase the risk of a crash.

By updating the HVAC system in the car, the issue can be remedied.

What you need to know

94,000 cars have been affected across the three car companies in a variety of models.

According to the NHTSA notice, the Toyota bZ4X that was sold between 2023-2025 is one model.

The other two are the Lexus RZ and the Subaru Solterra that were sold in the same period.

Letters will be issued to affected owners to notify them of the issue and are expected to be mailed by October 20.

Customers are also advised to contact Toyota’s customer service lines and mention the numbers for the recall.

The numbers 25TB07 and 25TA07 apply for the bZ4X.

25LB04 and 25LA04 are the numbers to quote for the Lexus RZ.

For the Subaru Solterra, customers should say the number, WRD-25.

What do I do?

If you receive a letter and your car has been affected, you should bring your car to a Toyota, Lexus or Subaru dealership.

You will be able to get the HVAC control software updated completely free of charge.

According to the notice, dealers will also inspect the electrical compressor of the vehicle and replace it if necessary.

How can I check if my car has been recalled?

You can check the status of recalls on cars, parts, accessories, makes and models on the NHTSA recall database.

Another way you can look is by visiting the USA TODAY car and motor vehicle recall database.

Drivers can also directly search the NHTSA website by putting in the licence plate number or the identification number of your car.

Direct searching is also available on the NHTSA website by inputting your vehicle’s license plate number or vehicle identification number.
