Trader Joe’s employees set record straight on the return of mini tote bags – and it’s not the date everyone thought

TRADER Joe’s workers have set the record straight on the highly-anticipated return of the mini tote bags, and their arrival might not be when you’re expecting.

Trader Joe’s is popular among shoppers for a number of reasons, from its unique and often exclusive selection of private label goods, affordable prices, quirky and fun atmosphere, and its friendly staff.

The chain, tying with Publix for the number one spot in customer satisfaction in February, has gained a cult following, with consumers vying for ways to express their love for the specialty grocer.

One way is via Trader Joe’s iconic mini totes, a smaller version of the chain’s popular canvas bags that feature the company’s logo embroidered directly onto the canvas material.

They are an easy way for shoppers to boast their loyalty to Trader Joe’s – and they’re coming back for the fourth time.

The mini canvas totes are returning to stores nationwide this fall, several Trader Joe’s representatives confirmed to The U.S. Sun.

While a handful of outlets have reported that the beloved bags will be arriving as early as September, workers told The U.S. Sun that shoppers can expect to see the mini canvas totes roll out sometime in October.

The bags will allegedly be Halloween-themed, available in black, orange, purple, and multicolored for $2.99 each, per the Reno Gazette Journal, part of the USA Today network.

IN THE BAG

Trader Joe’s mini canvas tote bags have sparked a frenzy with each launch.

The $2.99 bags, measuring roughly 13 by 11 by six inches, first went viral last March when they were debuted in blue, red, green, and yellow.

The initial launch quickly sold out in stores and grabbed the attention of millions of social media users, reselling for up to 200 times their retail value.

The original colors were relaunched in September last year, with the latest batch of totes hitting Trader Joe’s shelves in April in spring-themed colors.

Shoppers could choose from colors including baby blue, mint green, pink, and lavender, with the bags reportedly selling out in multiple stores and even appearing on sites such as eBay for as much as $1 million.

The upcoming launch marks the fourth time the mini totes will be up for grabs.

SO COOL

Although the canvas mini totes are not currently for sale, Trader Joe’s shoppers can get their hands on the retailer’s new batch of mini insulated totes.

Discontinued Trader Joe’s Products

Several Trader Joe’s items have been discontinued over the years, including:

  • Matcha Joe-Joe’s
  • Chile Lime Mayonnaise
  • Frozen Spinach Lasagna
  • Banana Waffles
  • Salted Caramel Gelato
  • Island Salsa
  • Cookie Butter Cheesecake
  • Chili Sesame Oil
  • Hi-Protein Veggie Burger

Rolled out earlier this month, the cooler bags are available in peach and blue for $3.99 each.

“Made with a marvelous, insulating material to help keep snacks, drinks, and groceries nice and cool, these Mini Insulated Totes are a fun and fashionable way to carry all kinds of goodies from point A to point B and back again,” reads the product description.

The last mini insulated tote rollout was in February this year, when the bags were available in pink and lavender.

These beloved mini insulated tote bags first hit the shelves in early June 2024 in magenta and teal colors, quickly selling out and sparking a resale frenzy.

The U.S. Sun previously spoke with Cherie Mercer Twohy, an avid Trader Joe’s fan, food writer, and culinary teacher, on all things Trader Joe’s.

She shared that shoppers can “try before you buy” – all it takes is a simple phrase that employees can’t ignore.

Twohy also shared an easy food return policy, fearing that sharing the secret will “ruin it for all of us.”
