Trans athlete sues Princeton University over ’emotional and physical harm’ at track meet – ‘disregard of rights’

A TRANSGENDER athlete is suing Princeton University on claims of discrimination.

Sadie Schreiner is accusing the school of violating New Jersey’s anti-discrimination laws.

According to the lawsuit, Schreiner attempted to compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational in May.

She aimed to race in the women’s 200 meters as one of around 150 racers who were not attached to a university.

However, 15 minutes before the race, the lawsuit claims “she discovered that her name was not listed in any of the heats.”

“I do not want to assume, but you are transgender,” a Princeton official allegedly told Schreiner.

The complaint accuses two school officials of “blatant and willful disregard of Sadie’s rights based on Sadie’s rights as a transgender woman under controlling New Jersey law.”

It is also alleged that the experience caused “Sadie Schreiner to foreseeable emotional and physical harm.”

The lawsuit is focused around the claim that Princeton violated the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

That law protects someone’s “gender identity or expression.”

Schreiner formerly competed at Rochester Institute of Technology and was a two-time All-American.

She owns school records in the 200m and 400m.

Schreiner finished third in the 200m at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

However, earlier this year President Donald Trump signed an executive order called Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.

The very next day the NCAA changed its policy on transgender athletes.

That caused Schreiner to be banned from competing at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.

“I very likely just ran what will be my last meet in the United States,” Schreiner said.

“Now, with the NCAA banning me, with USA Track & Field banning me, with World Athletics banning me, and with colleges too scared to allow me to participate due to Trump’s executive order, there is nowhere in the country that I’m able to compete.”

Schreiner is especially vocal her struggles to compete in the US on social media.

She has posted numerous videos to her over 3,500 followers on Instagram detailing how she has been affected by Trump’s executive order.
