Troy Aikman gives brutal verdict over Jerry Jones’ running of Dallas Cowboys

TROY Aikman has given a head-turning verdict on Jerry Jones’ ownership of the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys legend spoke about the legendary franchise after the longtime Dallas owner called his team a “soap opera.”

Jones and the Cowboys have had plenty of drama throughout the offseason.

The biggest storyline was the team’s contract feud with Micah Parsons, which ended with Jones shockingly trading the four-time Pro Bowler to the Green Bay Packers.

Aikman commented on his former boss’s comments on caring about the organization being “looked at” while promoting the new Netflix docuseries on the team.

“I saw Jerry talk about the fact that having the Cowboys as a discussion point is meaningful to him,” he said on The Rich Eisen Show.

“And if people aren’t talking about the Cowboys, then he’ll do things to stir it up.

“So he kind of walked into that and has given the impression that that supersedes winning.”

Aikman continued, “In some ways, I’m sure Jerry and the Jones family and everyone is tired of the fact that they haven’t been to a championship game, let alone a Super Bowl, in 30 years.

‘So, then when you deflect that, then essentially the valuation of your franchise or the attention and the exposure, or the drama.

“Or, as Jerry said, the fact that the Cowboys are a soap opera 365 days a year, that then becomes the scoreboard instead of winning and losing on the field.”

The Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 7-10 season that saw the team not retain head coach Mike McCarthy.

They haven’t earned a trip to the NFC Championship game since 1996 and are just 4-10 in the playoffs since 2000.

Dallas will now be led by head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

But they’ll be without Parsons as he’s now a part of the Packers.

The Cowboys received two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark in last week’s blockbuster trade.
