The roof of a rented house in the central province of Suphan Buri collapsed after two birds struck a second-floor window, injuring a Thai woman.
The 40 year old woman, Duangkamon, sustained injuries to her left leg, knee, shoulder, and back. She showed a long laceration on her back to Channel 3, explaining that a falling roof tile caused the wound. Her condition is now improving.
The house, located in Si Prachan district, is a two-storey structure made of wood and concrete. According to Duangkamon, the incident occurred yesterday, July 14, while she was at home with her sister-in-law.
Duangkamon said she was sitting and relaxing in front of the house when she saw two pigeons crash into a second-floor window. Moments later, the roof tiles and part of the wooden structure collapsed onto her, leaving her in shock.
She said she was confused and unable to move, as she was pinned under the debris. Her sister-in-law came to her aid and transported her to a hospital.
Duangkamon explained that her family had been renting the house for over 20 years, paying 1,200 baht per month. She lived there with five family members and had never encountered any structural issues, not even during severe thunderstorms.
She added that her young niece usually sat and played in the exact spot where the roof collapsed. Fortunately, the child had gone to school on the day of the incident.
The homeowner, Prajob Srimueng, told Channel 8 that the house was about 30 years old. She had previously renovated some parts of the house at the tenant’s request. Some areas made of wood had been damaged by termites, and she suspects the roof may have also been affected.
Prajob said she had hired a construction team to remove damaged sections but was not aware of problems with the roof. She stated she would arrange temporary accommodation for Duangkamon’s family while repairs are carried out.
