A Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 collided around 12.10pm near Fort Morgan — about 80 miles northeast of Denver, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA says two people were aboard each aircraft at the time.
One plane caught fire as it came down while the other was badly damaged, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
There has been no word, as yet, as to the condition of the four people that were in the planes.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board have launched an investigation with the NTSB taking the lead.
