This decision comes as the Dolphins players have voted on who should be in their leadership team ahead of the new season.
Linebackers Jordyn Brooks, 27, and Bradley Chubb, 29, have been promoted to serve as first year captains.
They will lead the Dolphins alongside Tua Tagovailoa, Aaron Brewer, Alec Ingold, and Zach Sieler.
Coach Mike McDaniel said, “I’m really excited about the whole voting process in general this year.
“This team was much more unified, and the focus on those six guys was very clear — those were resounding vote-getters.”
Hill’s absence is notable as he holds the franchise record for the most receptions in a single season, with 119 in both 2022 and 2023.
Additionally, the wide receiver made the most receiving yards in a single season for the Dolphins with 1,799 in 2023.
McDaniel added, “We were focused on giving the keys to captaincy to guys that had earned it each and every day.
“That’s what speaks to me the most is a football team that knows who it wants to be led by.”
The star receiver’s demotion is a clear message from his teammates that changes are urgently needed.
Their controversial decision comes after a disappointing 2024 season.
McDaniel’s Dolphins failed to qualify for the play-offs after finishing second in the AFC East.
This marks the first time in his professional career that the Super Bowl LIV winner has failed to reach the post-season.
