ABERDEEN, S.D. (KELO) — Police in Aberdeen have arrested a suspect who allegedly made threats against a political candidate who was attending Saturday’s Northern State University football game.
Police posted on social media the suspect was arrested for simple assault.
Police say they treat threats against any politician very seriously.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Toby Doden posted on his X account, talking about the interaction he had with the suspect.
Doden said that the suspect approached him from behind and said to him “We got Kirk, you’re next.” before fleeing on foot.
Police say they may release more information about the arrest on Monday.
