The 72-year-old Northwestern University instructor left her house in Evanston, which is a suburb of Chicago, at 9 am, wearing a windbreaker, backpack, and long pants.

Her house is about a mile away from the university.

Her heartbroken son Mikey Perkins said that she didn’t have her phone with her when she walked out.

“She left home this morning on her own,” he the Evanston RoundTable on Monday.

“And nine hours later, we’re very concerned.”

Perkins said that they are scouring the “natural spaces around Evanston,” like parks and the lakefront, because “those are the places that she’s most likely to want to spend her time.”

Local cops are flying drones over the lakefront to search for any sign of the instructor.

Kraus has been described as 5 feet 4 inches and 140 pounds with long silver hair and brown eyes, the Evanston Police Department said in a flyer.

Her family said that she is “very fit.”

Northwestern issued a desperate plea for help from the surrounding community.

“The university is hopeful that with the community’s help, we can find Professor Kraus and assure her safety,” the school wrote in a release.

Kraus teaches microbiology at Northwestern University’s School of Communication.

She’s described as a “scientist, inventor, and amateur musician who studied the biology of auditory learning” on the school’s website.

“My research on sound and the brain aims to understand how our life in sound, for better and worse, alters the processing of sound in the brain, makes us us, and affects the world we live in,” she wrote.
