Fritz, 27, has an enormous sponsorship deal with Hugo Boss that is worth millions of dollars.

The branding of the clothing company can been seen on his kit when he takes to the court.

Fritz’s shirt is also embroidered with “BOSS” on the upper left corner.

His headband has a similar branding mark, and is supposed to be proudly on display across his forehead.

However, when facing Djokovic, Fritz had an awkward malfunction as he put the headband on incorrectly.

He had instead placed it so “BOSS” was upside down, making it difficult to read and say “SSOB” instead.

The San Diego star was left mortified when he realised the gaffe as he reacted on social media.

He posted: “Yo why’d nobody tell me that s**t was backwards?”

His thousands of fans found the comment hilarious as they flooded the comment section.

One replied: “You would have for sure won if it was on right.”

A second wrote: “I thought it was for rear view mirrors.”

A third commented: “This was the funniest thing.”

A fourth said: “You’re either a BOSS or a SSOB.”

Another added: “Bro was doomed from the start lol.”

And the fans were right as Fritz suffered a US Open quarter-final defeat to Djokovic.

The Serb came out on top 6-3 7-5 3-6 6-4 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

The result meant that the American has failed to beat his rival in 11 attempts.

Speaking after the match, Fritz suggested that the record is a bit of a fallacy, considering when they played each other.

He said: “Like, I think the first, almost like seven or eight times I played him, I probably just wasn’t a good-enough player to really have that much of a chance unless I have the best day ever and he has a bad day.

“I think only the last couple times we’ve played I think I’ve been this just better player that can, you know, I’d say compete and have chances.

“Last time we played in, I think was it Shanghai, I mean, I had looks, I had set points in the second set.

“Like, I really should have probably won the second, taken it to a third set.

“But yeah, I think what makes it tough is he serves well, he serves aggressive on second serves.

“It’s tough to take advantage of his serve for how well he also returns and just is from the baseline.

“He backs it up incredibly well with the serve. So it’s tough to sometimes get on him the way that he’s getting on you with the return.”
