MILLIONS of Americans could receive a check worth up to $500 as part of a state’s refund initiative.
Nearly three million refunds have already been delivered with more rounds expected in August and September.

Residents in the State of Georgia could receive these funds in just weeks as officials attempt to ease the rising cost of living.
Checks range from $250 to $500 per person and are part of a massive $1 billion fund earmarked by officials.
The money will land in bank accounts with the code GASTTAXRFD, while checks will be titled “state surplus refund check“.
The payments are made possible by a $16 billion budget surplus.
Governor Brian Kemp explained the initiative, citing economic pressure on families.
“Inflation may have fallen, but high prices are still here and weighing down hardworking Georgians,” he said in October.
Local residents have praised the relief checks.
“Amazing, amazing… good to know someone is looking out for us,” Steven Williams of Hinesville, Georgia, told CBS affiliate WTOC-TV.
This marks the third consecutive year Georgia has distributed rebate payments.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Taxpayers who have resided in Georgia for the 2023 tax year and who filed their 2023 and 2024 income tax returns on time.
No application is required as the deposit is made automatically.
HOW MUCH WILL YOU BE PAID?
The maximum amount an individual can receive is $250, while up to $500 is on offer for married couples filing jointly.
A head of household can claim up $375. This is anyone who is single or unmarried and who has maintained a home for parents, a child or other close relatives.
MORE STATE SUPPORT
It’s not just Georgia offering financial aid to its residents.
Alaska runs a statewide program called the Permanent Fund Dividend, or PFD.
The payment is designed to help manage profits from the state’s oil and natural resources.
The 2024 PFD amount of $1,702 is being sent out to each eligible Alaskan.
It includes $1,440 from the fund plus a one-time $262 energy relief bonus.
The payment will be distributed on August 21.
Roughly 60,000 state residents are paid out by the PFD annually, and one of the main eligibility requirements is that you’re a resident of Alaska for the full 2024 calendar year.
