USD professor allowed to keep working longer

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Michael Hook’s temporary restraining order has now been extended to October 24 after a court hearing Tuesday.

The temporary restraining order allows Hook to keep working as a professor. A federal judge first granted the temporary restraining order September 25. Hook teaches fine arts at the University of South Dakota.

The extension comes after a brief hearing on Tuesday. Originally, the TRO was to expire October 8.

“Due to the court’s scheduling issues, the parties agreed during a telephonic hearing to further delay this hearing until Friday, October 24,” court documents said.

Hook is suing representatives from the South Dakota Board of Regents (BOR) and USD after he was put on administrative leave for a social media post regarding Charlie Kirk.

There is a student walkout on Wednesday. KELOLAND News will be in Vermillion to cover the event.
