While it’s impossible to know the exact number of 1965 Corvettes still in existence, the automaker produced roughly 23,000 units for the 1965 model year, according to Hagerty.
The car is known for its sleek design, powerful engine options, and notable performance features, including standard four-wheel disc brakes, optional side exhaust, and a flat hood.
The 1965 Corvette is unique for its introduction of the big-block 396 CID V8 engine.
This was the largest engine ever offered in a Corvette at the time and significantly boosted horsepower.
Only 2,157 Corvettes were fitted with a 396 cubic inch V8 L78 engine, according to Auto Evolution.
The interior of this classic car had some minor design changes, including redesigned instrument displays and larger, more supportive seats.
Although inevitably, some have been lost to accidents, time, and disasters, car enthusiasts have sought to find the classic car.
One owner of a 1965 Corvette chose to remodel his vintage ride so that it shone bright.
After six months of working on the remodel, the owner covered his entire Corvette with pennies.
According to the eBay listing, the project began in 1982 by Carlie Regini, who wanted to transform his 1965 Corvette into a “Penny Corvette.”
The car isn’t just covered in pennies — there are also nickels, dimes, half dollars, silver dollars, and Susan B. Anthony coins.
The eBay seller said the owner had the vehicle lying around in a storage facility for several years.
“I put in a new battery, new fuel tank, sending unit,” the listing reads.
“…all 4 rubber brake lines, 4 new calipers, 4 new rotors, and new master cylinder.”
Five steps for restoring a car
Restoring a car can be a massive undertaking. Here’s a simpler way to think about the process as a whole:
- Plan
- This includes setting a budget, preparing a work area, researching parts, and establishing a timeline to get the work done.
- Strip the vehicle
- This involves disassembling the vehicle and assessing the condition of the parts being removed.
- Bodywork
- This means stripping the paint and repairing any rust and dents, followed by repainting.
- Engine restoration
- This involves restoring a car’s power – including engine repairs.
- Rebuild
- After reassembling and detailing the car, all that’s left is to take it for a test drive.

Although the car’s original engine was busted, the car was revived with “essential work,” according to Auto Evolution.
The car is now listed on the e-commerce website for $37,500.
There aren’t any current or active bids on this Corvette yet.
The vintage ride is located in Windermere, Florida, and the future buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle when sold.
The eBay seller also noted, “Remember this is still a 1965 Corvette if you feel ambitious to remove all of the pennies you can…”
“If you take this car to a show you will be amazed with the crowd it draws,” they added.
