Walmart issues defiant pledge as it confirms another store will close from October 2

WALMART has issued a defiant pledge while confirming the closure of another location next month.

The retail giant released a statement announcing the closure of a popular branch – leaving shoppers scrambling to find their next nearest store.

The chain made the decision to close their Walmart Neighbourhood Market site.

It currently is located at 3112 Santa Rita Road, in Pleasanton, California.

The retailer announced it would be closing on October 2 – but made a strong vow to shoppers.

They said: “The store will close to the public on October 2. We remain very committed to California.

“It’s important to point out that we have three Walmart stores within eight miles of this location – the next closest store is one mile away.”

Walmart highlighted that shoppers would have options when picking what store to visit instead of the one closing down.

Pleasanton shoppers will have one other Walmart to visit in the city after October 2.

And the retail chain emphasised their commitment to the state.

“Another nearby store completed a multi-million-dollar remodel earlier this year,” they said.

“Statewide, we are in the process or have completed 57 California store remodels this year.”

They also told shoppers of their eye-watering investments into the region over the last few years.

“Over the past five years, Walmart has invested more than $800 million (M) to upgrade Walmart stores throughout California,” they added.

Walmart spokesperson Anne Hatfield said the decision to close the location had been made “after careful review“.

“The way customers want to be served is constantly changing, and we are evolving to meet their needs and serve them how, when and where they want,” Hatfield said.

“We consider many factors, including the current portfolio mix, customer needs, financial performance and the proximity of other nearby stores.”

There was no immediate reason given for the closure of the site.

The pharmacy inside the store will also close on the same date as part of the shut down.

Pleasanton’s last remaining Walmart is on Rosewood Drive inside the Metro 580 shopping center.

Meanwhile the second closest Walmarts are the recently renovated Neighborhood Market on Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon, and the site on Las Positas Road in Livermore.
