Ryan, 48, was blasted online for the way he spoke to a young interviewer from Canadian TV station, CTV.
Things got off to a friendly start as Ryan asked: “Hi little guy, what’s your question for me buddy?”
The excited child seemed slightly overwhelmed, and exclaimed: “Hi Ryan, nice to meet you!”
However, a grinning Ryan replied: “Nice to meet you too, let’s skip to the question…”
The child went forward with his light enquiry, asking: “Why is there so much Chipotle mayo on your Tim Horton breakfast?”
Ryan then responded: “You know what, I wish I had some control over that, I can send a strongly-worded letter to the chef over at Tim Hortons.”
He added: “Consider it done young man. What’s your name? Liam? I’ll make it downright vicious, but I’ll say it’s from you though.”
Ryan then seemed to be in a hurry and abruptly walked away, without waiting for a reply.
The child had a list of questions to follow up, that could be seen on his cue card in the video.
Many fans took to social media as they were left gobsmacked by the star’s behaviour.
One viewer noted: “He exudes meanness.”
A second user stated: “WOW and he somehow thought that was ok!”
While a third sarcastically claimed: “Let’s skip to the question? Dude it’s a kid.”
As someone else wrote: “That poor kid, way to ruin someone’s confidence.”
And a fifth added: “‘Not a kind manner at all with this child. He’s lucky he wanted to interview him.”
However, others came to his defence as they claimed: “He didn’t do anything wrong? He is just being himself like he usually is with humour.”
As someone else said: “Not rude at all. The lady he was with indicated they were in a hurry. He stopped, took the question. Only mistake was letting the tight schedule he was under slip. Probably just tired and mildly stressed. No rudeness.”
Another fan claimed: “People don’t understand Ryan Reynolds is a real life Deadpool with his humor. Plus he’s busy and has to keep moving”
And another added: “Not only is it a joke, but even if it was serious, Ryan Reynolds’ is a celebrity and is a busy man! Who knows maybe he could’ve been late or in a rush.”
Staff at the festival were also apparently closing the red carpet.
A source MailOnline: “They said Ryan couldn’t stop for anymore interviews and he did in fact stop the kid reporter on his own. He was in no way being rude.
“There was also a lot of other reporters trying to get a question which is why he bent down to the kid to have him ask the question.”
This is the latest PR headache for the star.
His wife Blake Lively, 38, has been caught up in an ongoing legal battle with her It Ends With Us director and co-star, Justin Baldoni.
