SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The water advisory for northeast Sioux Falls has been lifted.
The city issued the advisory Tuesday afternoon and instructed people to boil any drinking water before consuming.
“Residents in the impacted area can resume consuming or using water for drinking, cooking, and all other purposes without having to boil it first,” a news release from the city said.
On Tuesday, a utility contractor, hired by the city, was in the process of cleaning and testing a new water line before putting it into service, according to a news release from the city. However, before test results were available, a valve was opened that temporarily connected the new line to the active distribution system, which could have contaminated the water.
Additional testing on Wednesday showed no E. coli bacteria was present in the drinking water.

The impacted areas was roughly from E Madison Street to the north, the Big Sioux River to the east, Arrowhead Parkway to the south and Veterans Parkway to the west.
Fred Assam Elementary School is located in the affected zone. Principal Rick Pearson said students are using bottled water for the day, provided by the City of Sioux Falls.
“Our kids are staying hydrated and are sticking to the routine,” Pearson told KELOLAND News. “Instantly, (the city) was boots on the ground trying to make sure that we had the resources so we could have students here safely and access to water and so forth today.”
