AMID credit card debt struggles worth tens of thousands of dollars, a woman sought the assistance of an unorthodox financial advisor.

Using OpenAI’s ChatGPT, she has put a significant dent in the money owed, and completely changed her habits.

Realtor and content creator Jennifer Allan, 35, explained that she’d “struggled with money” for most of her life, or at least struggled managing it, per Newsweek.

Allan said that she was “never taught financial literacy” and “avoided budgeting” for years.

“I figured if I just kept working harder, I could out-earn the problem. That worked… until it didn’t,” she confessed.

Financials were further complicated in the 35-year-old’s life after having her daughter.

On top of the personal stress with a trip to the NICU shortly after birth and other postpartum recovery processes, the costs of childbirth in the United States in 2025 averages around $18,865, per Forbes.

With or without insurance, the total is still well-over $10,000.

MOVING FORWARD

“I shut down emotionally, and I used credit cards to keep our life afloat,” Allan told the publication.

“We weren’t living lavishly. We were just surviving. But the debt piled up while I wasn’t looking.”

Looking for a way out, Allan turned to ChatGPT for some “momentum” after spotting 30-day debt challenges from influencers online.

ChatGPT would suggest a single challenge every day for Allan to save money, whether it was selling old items on Facebook Marketplace, cancelling subscriptions, filing for unclaimed money, or looking for rare coins with high value in her spare change.

The savings started to add up, with $100 coming from the coins alone.

Except, the real debt-busting move came when ChatGPT suggested she simply scour through all financial apps on her phone.

The 35-year-old realized there was a brokerage account she’d been unaware of, with excess cash of around $10,000.

By the end of the 30-day challenge, Allan (@_jenn.allan) revealed in a video on TikTok that she’d paid off $12,078.93 toward the $23,000 owed.

“I’m super, super happy with that,” Allan told viewers.

“I’ve essentially paid off half of my debt.”

SAVINGS STRUCTURE

The over $12,000 total was reached through another helpful suggestion from ChatGPT.

It advised that Allan create a meal plan for the month based solely on food in her pantry, which resulted in about $600 saved.

Allan is in the midst of another 30-day challenge to clear the rest of the credit card debt to rid herself of it entirely.

The 35-year-old emphasized while speaking with Newsweek that using ChatGPT wasn’t a “big financial hack,” but rather a tool to help her foster different habits, a “structure without judgement.”

Americans’ total credit card debt balances stand at $1.182 trillion this year, per data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Balances have risen by about $412 billion since 2021, a 54% increase over four years.

Another woman was also able to pay off $20,000 worth of credit card debt in a year, but she had to stick to a “zero-based” budget trick.

A money expert also told The US Sun in an exclusive conversation that a few tricks helped her pay back $175,000 in student loans.
