World’s largest cruise ship with 20 decks, waterpark at sea, and Broadway shows sails into US ahead of maiden voyage

THE world’s largest cruise ship – offering 20 decks, a waterpark and Broadway shows – is en route to its new home in Florida.

The Royal Caribbean’s luxurious Star of the Seas will shortly make its official debut in Port Canaveral, Orlando, ahead of its maiden voyage.

Royal Caribbean said Star of the Seas would a new era of family vacations.

The ship has been under construction for nearly two years at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.

The 1,196-foot-long (364m) holiday vessel features “incredible feats of engineering accomplished during construction.”

This includes the installation of the glass-and-steel AquaDome, and the development of six record-breaking waterslides,” added the cruise line.

Holidaymakers have plenty of choices when it comes to entertainment and food – with more than 20 dining options and over 20 bars and lounges.

Guests will also be able to indulge in activities free of extra charges.

For example, performances of Back to the Future: The Musical, plus access to the largest waterpark at sea.

Its capacity is 5,610 passengers, along with 2,350 international crew.

The Star is set to arrive at Port Canaveral on August 15, according to its website.

Royal Caribbean said: “The world’s fest family vacation sails from Port Canaveral — launching your family adventures into a new stratosphere.


“Blast off for discovery at the Kennedy Space Center, swim with manatees, go museum hopping, or explore world-famous theme parks in Orlando, just a short drive away.”

Star of the Seas is to begin its maiden voyage on August 31. Tickets for its inaugural journey start at $951 per person.

But before its much-anticipated arrival in the US, it will initially make its way from Turku to Cadiz, Spain.

While in Spain, Royal Caribbean will put the finishing touches before Star sets sail on seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean adventures to top-rated destinations, including CocoCay in The Bahamas.

And it was recently announced that music sensation Diana Ross will exchange arenas for the ocean waves, as godmother of Royal Caribbean’s newest ship.

Highlights aboard Star of the Seas

The keys to the next revolutionary Icon Class ship have been officially handed over to Royal Caribbean a few weeks ahead of its August debut in Port Canaveral in Orlando, Florida.

Features on board the 20-deck cruise ship include:

  • Category 6: The largest waterpark at sea, rising 154 feet above the ocean with six record-breaking slides
  • FlowRider: The iconic surf simulator for wave riding
  • Crown’s Edge: A sky-high ropes course experience
  • Adrenaline Peak: A climbing wall challenge with ocean views
  • Mini golf and Intergalactic bumper cars
  • The Cove and Cloud 17 offering adults-only retreats
  • Water’s edge pool, Royal Bay, and The Hideaway for relaxation
  • Passengers can choose from more than 20 dining options and over 20 bars and lounges
  • Its list of activities free of extra charges includes access to a taste of Broadway at performances of Back to the Future: The Musical

The title has been given to her as she’s agreed to perform on the maiden voyage.

The Chain Reaction singer, 81, said: “I’ve always felt a deep connection to the ocean and the magic it represents – peace, adventure and awe.

“When Royal Caribbean reached out to invite me to be the godmother of Star of the Seas, I knew it was something truly special.”

A spokesman for the cruise line said: “With her music inspiring generations of families, Ms Ross will take the stage to welcome the newest family vacation sailing from Port Canaveral, Florida, and visiting the top-rated Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.”

He added that the ship “will double the world’s best vacation count with record-breaking thrills, unrivalled ways to chill, and more than 40 ways to dine, drink and be entertained across eight neighborhoods that are destinations in themselves.”

This includes the Royal Promenade, with floor-to-ceiling ocean views.

There is also the Pearl, the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture; and the open-air ‘Central Park’ with more than 30,500 real plants.

Passengers can also enjoy the new 1930’s Chicago-inspired Lincoln Park Supper Club along with “convenient pick-up windows for sushi, champagne, sparkling wine and more.

“Plus, vacationers have more ways to stay across four decks at the Suite Neighborhood and amenities at the Grove Suite Sun Deck and two-level Coastal Kitchen.”
